Salamanca Street, Vauxhall, London

blocwork is assessing the options for working spaces or living places on this small site overlooking Pedlars Park near the Thames in Zone 1 London. The park is named after the ‘Pedlar of Lambeth’ who, legend has it, donated 1 acre of land for the nearby St Mary’s Church -now the Museum of Garden History.

The character of the local neighbourhood and Vauxhall Gardens Conservation Area, comprises a rich mix of styles and materials. We have designed the proposed development to compliment the surrounding streets whilst providing its own identity. The building’s form and palette of materials takes reference from the local pottery industry the location being the historic home of Royal Doulton and architectural ceramics are found in the adjacent buildings.

The area has recently benefitted from the development of the Newport Art Gallery.
